Does a Workday posting ever name the hiring manager?
No. Inside Workday every requisition has a hiring manager and a recruiter assigned to it, and the candidate-facing page shows neither. What it does show is more structured than most job sites, because the page is generated from the requisition record: a requisition ID, a location, a job family, a posting date. Those four fields are what you search with.
What can you read from a Workday job URL?
A typical address looks like this:
acme.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/AcmeCareers/job/Austin-TX/Senior-Data-Analyst_R-104872| Part | What it is | What to do with it |
|---|---|---|
acme | The employer | Sometimes a parent company rather than the brand in the listing. Search LinkedIn under the name people actually work for. |
Austin-TX | Where the role is based | Filter the company's LinkedIn People tab to that city. At a large employer this cuts the list more than the title does. |
Senior-Data-Analyst | The title as the employer wrote it | Use it word for word in your subject line. |
R-104872 | The requisition ID | Quote it. It is the one thing that lets the manager find your application in their own system in a single search. |
How do you find the hiring manager for a Workday job?
- Take the job family and the location off the posting. Workday employers are mostly large, and āFinanceā at a company of forty thousand is not a search. āFinance, Treasury, Austinā is.
- Search LinkedIn for the level above the role in that city. For a Senior Data Analyst, try Analytics Manager, Director of Analytics, Head of Data. The steps are on the LinkedIn page.
- Expect two or three candidates, not one. Pick the one whose own profile describes the work in the posting. If you cannot choose, write to the more senior of them and say which requisition you mean.
- Check whether the same role is open in several cities. Identical requisitions with different locations usually mean one recruiter and several managers. Yours is the one in your city.
Of the 2,086 job postings looked up on DearHiringManager between 2026-05-24 and 2026-08-24, 106 (5.1%) were Workday postings. The full split by source, with the method, is in the Outreach Index.
What changes in the email when the employer runs Workday?
Put the requisition ID in the subject line next to the role. A manager at a large employer may have several openings with near-identical titles, and the number removes the guesswork. Worked examples are in subject lines for an email to a hiring manager.
Apply first. Large employers generally cannot move a candidate forward without a record in the system, so an email that arrives before the application gets the reply āplease apply onlineā. If the form includes a free-text box, fill it in as well: what to write in the message to hiring manager field.
The shortcut is the same on every job site. Paste the Workday posting URL into the hiring manager finder and it returns the name, a verified work email and the LinkedIn profile of the person who owns that role, in about a minute.
Questions
Can the hiring manager see my Workday application?
Once a recruiter moves you forward, usually yes. Before that, most setups put the recruiter's review first, which is why an application can be complete in the system and unseen by the person who decides.
Where is the requisition ID on a Workday posting?
At the end of the URL after an underscore, and on the page itself in the job details, labelled as the job requisition ID. It usually starts with R or JR followed by digits.
Why do I need a separate Workday account for every employer?
Each employer runs its own Workday site, and accounts do not carry across them. It is also why nothing you write in one application reaches anyone at another company.
Should I email before or after applying on Workday?
After. Large employers generally need an application on record before anyone can act on a candidate, so an email sent first tends to come back as a request to apply online.
