How to find the hiring manager for a job on Indeed

Indeed never shows the hiring manager. A listing names the company and nobody at it. If the listing has an “Apply on company site” button, follow it to the original posting and work from there. Otherwise take the team and location from the description and search the company's people on LinkedIn.

Why does an Indeed listing not show who is hiring?

Because Indeed lists employers, not people. A listing carries the company name, the location and the description. Nothing on it points to the person who opened the role, and messages between you and the employer run through Indeed, so you never see an address either. The name has to come from somewhere else, and where depends on which of two kinds of listing you are looking at.

The two kinds of Indeed listing
What you seeWhat it isWhere to look next
An “Apply on company site” buttonA copy of a posting that lives on the employer's own careers page or applicant tracking systemClick through. The original has the team name, the requisition number and often a reporting line that the copy dropped.
An “Easily apply” badgeA listing the employer created on Indeed itselfThe company name is all you have. Common with smaller employers, where the person hiring is often the owner or the manager of that location.

How do you find the hiring manager for an Indeed job?

  1. Follow the listing to its source. If there is an “Apply on company site” button, use it and work from the original posting. That is usually a Workday, Greenhouse or Lever page, and each one leaks different clues.
  2. Take the team and the location from the description. “Customer Success, Austin” is enough to search with.
  3. Search the company on LinkedIn. Open the company page, go to People, and type the title one level above the role. The full walk-through is on the LinkedIn page.
  4. For a small local employer, look at the business itself. The owner or general manager is named on the company website or its Google listing more often than on LinkedIn, and at that size they are the hiring manager.

Which Indeed link is the job posting?

The one that looks like indeed.com/viewjob?jk=a1b2c3d4e5f6a7b8. A link starting with indeed.com/jobs?q= or indeed.com/q- is a search results page, and indeed.com/cmp/ is a company profile. Neither identifies one role. On a results page, the job open in the side panel is the value after vjk= in the address bar. Put that value after viewjob?jk= and you have the posting.

Of the 2,086 job postings looked up on DearHiringManager between 2026-05-24 and 2026-08-24, 38 (1.8%) were Indeed postings. The full split by source, with the method, is in the Outreach Index.

That share is small next to LinkedIn's. We cannot see why from the numbers alone, but the table above suggests one reason: a listing that is a copy sends you to the original, and the original is the link people end up looking up. Doing the same gives you more to work with.

How do you get from the name to an email?

Indeed will not help here. Apply the company's address pattern to the name and verify the result before sending, as described in how to find out who the hiring manager is. Then send one short note three to five business days after you apply: timing and three templates.

The shortcut is the same on every job site. Paste the Indeed posting URL into the hiring manager finder and it returns the name, a verified work email and the LinkedIn profile of the person who owns that role, in about a minute.

Questions

Does Indeed show who posted a job?

No. Indeed shows the employer's name and the listing. Any messages the employer sends you arrive through Indeed, so you do not see a personal address or the name of the person behind the listing.

What does “Apply on company site” mean for finding the manager?

It means the listing is a copy. The original lives on the employer's careers page or applicant tracking system and usually carries more detail: the team, a requisition number, sometimes a reporting line. Start from the original.

Can I message the hiring manager through Indeed?

Only if the employer contacts you first. There is no way to open a conversation with a named person from a listing, which is why a direct email is the only route that creates a new touchpoint.

Which Indeed link identifies the job?

A link containing viewjob?jk= followed by a code. Search result links and company profile links do not identify one role. On a results page, the code after vjk= in the address bar is the job that is open.
